Taylor Steele actively practices in Texas and California, handling complex, high-stakes litigation with a focus on his special interests – healthcare fraud and whistleblower claims. His experience in practice prior to coming to Knox Ricksen LLP provides Taylor with the proven ability to successfully represent parties in state and federal actions in a wide array of disputes including contract, catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death, real estate, estates and trusts, and land use.
Before entering the practice of the law, Taylor had the honor of interning with the Honorable Carl E. Stewart, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the solicitor general of Texas, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Supreme Court’s Clerk’s Office.
- Represent plaintiff ERISA welfare benefit plan in complex disputes against healthcare providers and pharmacy benefits manager involving fraudulent prescription drug claims
- Defended family members of deceased trustor against beneficiaries who sought to require family members to fund the trust
- In a case inherited from another law firm with a looming trial date, strategized a defense and drafted successful motion for judgment on the pleadings that led to dismissal of plaintiffs’ claims for over $17 million, and then obtained denial of motion for new trial, ending two years of litigation
- Where a plaintiff business partner sued to prevent client’s use of proceeds from sale of Lake Tahoe resort, won dismissal of plaintiff’s Florida lawsuit on inconvenient forum grounds, and then won denial of motion for preliminary injunction when the plaintiff refiled in California
- Successfully moved to dismiss series of complaints seeking to invalidate client’s government permits to carry out core business operations
- Represented corporate directors in developing and implementing U.S. legal strategy as part of international trust dispute involving Colombia, Israel and the British Virgin Islands
- Prosecuted breach of fiduciary duty claims for $100 million against former trustees of $500 million trust, including drafting and arguing multiple oppositions to summary judgment, preserving the claims for trial
- Obtained summary judgment and subsequent multimillion-dollar fee award on behalf of physicians and medical providers in a federal RICO case filed by California’s largest workers’ compensation insurer who sought damages in excess of $110 million
- Reached high-value settlements on behalf of commercial tenants against one of the world’s largest retail shopping mall companies
- Prosecuted nuisance and contract claims by commercial tenant against landlord and the neighboring commercial tenant, one of the world’s largest retailers
- Defended owner of food-additive distribution company in federal qui tam matter
- Obtained early dismissal of former employee’s claims for harassment and fraud against former employer
